How to Successfully Master The Game of Basketball

When it comes to Youth Basketball, it can take place at a wide variety of levels. At one level could be the peewee leagues for children too young for scholastic leagues. Another type could be the kids who play in the playground for fun. And, still another is those who play during school. Three sport athletes are usually the typical jocks. Fall brings football and basketball during the winter months with baseball and track taking over in spring. When this stage of playing begins, these children may no longer be children, and with may come an impression that lasts long after they leave school.

It is during these sporting events and seasons that life long friendships will be made and memories will be constant. Certain games will be the topic of many conversations and this will flow through the years for those who were involved in it.

While teaching Basketball Plays, children at the age of about 14 years-old will have a difficult time learning the principles and the discipline needed to run an offense, so you need to be patient and caring when dealing with them.

Typically, children have short attention spans, which will cascade into everything they work on including sports. As a result, when working with this age of child, there needs to be a certain amount of tolerance given, allowing for the fun aspects of the sport to enter into the equation. Practices for children, should be considerably less strict than what you would expect from your average high school student team.

Children under the age of 14 are generally only interested in shooting the ball successfully, and generally won’t understand the reasons to drill on other areas. They will typically not want to work at getting in shape, won’t stretch out properly without direct supervision and will be happy to simply jump around and play unless otherwise instructed.

Although this is not usual, at times a child will show extra promise and a talent for a particular sport even before leaving childhood behind which will grow to fruition and continue throughout their adult years. While this will make them popular with many a local, high school coach, they will not be able to utilize their talents until they reach high school years. However, the coach will watch and chart a potentially gifted child’s sports progress as they go through the lower grades waiting for them to arrive at high school. When that time arrives, a good coach will know the strengths and weaknesses of that athlete.

Nonetheless, with Youth basketball, players accomplish things even when they start with the peewee league and work their way up. It’s not necessary to be a top player to have fun and progress. They may wind up with more experience than many other players, and this may be the difference between warming the bench and starting because of their skill level.
